Effectiveness of physical therapy in different environments in case of residual effects after stroke

Object: Change of physical properties and the quality of life after stroke. Issue of the research: Stroke is one of the most common causes of illness and mortality in the world (Kushner et al., 2015). Stroke is the third cause of mortality also it causes serious health and care costs after cardiovascular and oncological diseases in the USA and other countries (Yang – Hu Li rt al., 2016). This is one of the most urgent medical and social problems due to the high mortality and severe residual disability (Pečeliūnas, Jamontaitė, 2014). Hypothesis: We believe that the physical therapy program provided at home will have a greater impact to functional status, mobility and quality of life than the physical therapy exercises in hospital. Purpose of the research: To identify the effectiveness of physical therapy program applicable in different environments to persons after stroke. Tasks of the research: 1. To evaluate the quality of life prior to the application of physical therapy program and after. 2. To evaluate overall functional status and self-service prior to the application of physical therapy program and after. 3. To evaluate motor movement and mobility function prior to the application of physical therapy program and after. 4. To compare the effectiveness of applied physical therapy program between the groups in different environments. Findings: 1. The quality of life study revealed that the quality of life has improved in both groups in the course of application of the physical therapy program. It was found that the quality of life in the first group after physical therapy improved significantly (p˂0,05). Results of the second group after physical therapy didn’t differ statistically. (p˃0,05). 2. The overall functional status of the first group which carried out the exercises at home and the second group which conducted the exercises in the hospital has improved slightly (p˃0,05). 3. Assessing the functions of movements and motor before and after the physical therapy, the obtained data have showed that the results of the first group and the second group were statistically significant (p˂0,05). 4. Comparing the results of two groups after physical therapy was found that the first group, which have been doing the exercises at home, have improved their functions of movements and motor as well as the quality of life much more significantly than the second group, which conducted exercises in the hospital (p0,05)
