An ethnobotanical survey conducted among the Brong people in the Transua Department, Zanzan District (Côte d’Ivoire) has revealed Pycnanthus angolensis. This is a plant highly recommended for the treatment of microbial diseases. Evaluating the antifungal activity by the method of double dilution in angle sloping tubes on Sabouraud Agar with three trunk bark extracts, it emerged that only ethanol 70% extract (Eeth) has anticandidosic activity. Candida albicans seems to be more sensitive with MIC = 25±0.0 mg/ml, IC50 = 1.45±0.05 mg/ml and a MFC = 50±0.0 mg/ml. The phytochemical screening showed the presence of polyphenolic compounds, flavonoids, tannins (catechin), saponins and alkaloids that may justify the activity and their traditional use...
