This research focuses on the teaching and learning (T-L) of French by an audience of adults "from migrant backgrounds" in an associative environment in France. Learning and progression difficulties are regularly observed in the workshops offered, which are led by volunteers. The latter are neither trained nor made aware of the understanding and management of the linguistic plurality of their audience. In order to provide a better understanding of the difficulties in learning French and to consider a didactic intervention in this context, I analyzed the representations relating to languages and cultures among learners and among volunteers.
