Over the last three decades, studies unveiled the great diversity of viruses, archaea; bacteria and fungi occupying body sites and our surrounding environment. The advent of Next-Generation 5equencing (NG5) enabled large-scale metagenomics studies to describe the microbial composition of these niches. The presence of specific microbial strains or their combination in our oral, gut, skin or respiratory microbiota were associated to health and diseases. These observations opened new horizons in clinical microbiology, where microbiota profiling couId contribute to the care of chronic· disease such as cancer or metabolic syndrome.
