A CORPUS ANALYSIS OF THE MOST FREQUENTLY USED NOUNS IN THE ENGLISH IN FOCUS FOR JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL

Keywords: course book, Frequency, Corpus, Nouns One of the important keys in learning English is through acquiring vocabulary from the course books. One of the ways to validate vocabulary coverage and word frequency in the course book is analysis the vocabulary with corpus. The corpus words were selected to represent the most frequent words of English and were taken from a corpus of written English. The question that formulated by the researcher is “What are the most frequently used nouns in the course book in the junior high Scholl? And what are the most word frequency in course book?” The purpose of the study is to know the most frequently used course book in the junior high Scholl and to know the most word frequency in course books. Research Method: 1) the research design in this study was corpus based study. 2) The data being analyzed was corpus of course book which collected and downloaded from several website such as: https://annibuku.com/bse/buku english-in-focus-kelas-8-smp-70 and http://bse.kemdikbud.go.id 3) the data analysis was conducted by using corpus-specialized freeware, AntConc and Tag Ant, in generate wordlist and frequency. Then, the results of the nouns were categorized according to Thomson and Martinet (1986) classification after conducted an analysis, the researcher found the result of this study. The result findings, the result revealed noun that mostly used is common noun and abstract nouns as the second. Common noun was mostly used in course book to describe person or thing. abstract nouns was used to describe the which names anything that can not perceive trough the five physical sense of human The conclusion of this study shows that the most nouns found from the data is common nouns
