Revista Entrelaces, Fortaleza, ano 5, n. 6, p. 154-170, jul./dez. 2015.This study aims to investigate the Northeastern popular culture, in particular the marks of oral tradition in the work of the Auto Compadecida of ArianoSuassuna. Notably hybrid, author of the text is identified mostly to circus shows and the popular tradition, on the way to present events. In this work, the Catholic moral appears in the foreground, talking with the sixteenth-century Portuguese style of Gil Vicente and local traditions and regionalist of Brazilian folklore. The most relevant cultural instruments in the play are the beliefs and string literature of the Brazilian regional realities, specifically the northeastern regional reality. It is believed that the legends, myths, folk tales and fables do not just exotic part of the wall of Brazilian literature. Indagaremos, the grandeur of the communicative content that runs through the narrative due to the transposable elements of Brazilian popular culture present in the different characters and text descriptions.To achieve these purposes. We dive into the theoretical framework of Ortiz (1992); Krab (1982; 1988); Vassallo (1993), Canclini (1983); Hall (2000), Antonio Candido (2010), among others.O presente trabalho tem como objetivo investigar a cultura popular nordestina, em especial as marcas da tradição oral na obra Auto da Compadecida de Ariano Suassuna. Notadamente híbrido, o texto do autor se identifica majoritariamente aos espetáculos de circo e à tradição popular, por sua maneira de apresentar os acontecimentos.Nesta obra, a moral católica aparece em primeiro plano, dialogando com o estilo quinhentista português de Gil Vicente e com as tradições locais e regionalistas do folclore brasileiro. Os instrumentos culturais mais relevantes na peça são as crendices e a literatura de cordel da realidade regional brasileira, mais precisamente da realidade regional nordestina. Acredita-se queas lendas, mitos, contos populares e fábulas não fazem parte apenas do exótico no mural da literatura brasileira.Indagaremos, assim, se a grandiosidade do conteúdo comunicativo que percorre a narrativa deve-se à transposição de elementos da cultura popular brasileira presentes nas diferentes personagens e descrições do texto.Para o alcance desses propósitos,mergulharemos no aporte teórico de Ortiz (1992); Cascudo (1982; 1988); Vassalo (1993), Canclini (1983); Hall (2000), Antonio Candido (2010), entre outros
