DPT 750 PHYSIOLOGY PATHOPHYSIOLOGY AND PHARMACOLOGY

Pathophysiology is the study of the biological and physical manifestations of disease as they correlate with the underlying abnormalities and physiological disturbances. Pathophysiology does not deal directly with the treatment of disease. Rather, it explains the processes within the body that result in the signs and symptoms of a disease. In this course, students will examine the phenomena that produce alterations in human physiologic function and the resulting human response. Upon completion of this course, students will understand pathophysiological changes, including how various pathological responses are manifested and progress in the body and the resulting primary and secondary effects. A review of the normal physiology of each system will occur to allow students to compare and contrast ???diseased??? vs. normal functioning, thus reinforcing conceptual understanding of the material. Lastly, pharmacological interventions commonly used to treat diseases will be discussed
