Graduate recital in percussion

Includes recorded audio files in WAV and MP3 formats, 54:33 in length.The works in this program were chosen to exploit three main areas of percussion performance: Mallet instruments, timpani, and multiple percussion. Marimba suite by paul sifler, is a composition consisting of four short pieces requiring four mallet technique. Each movement is based on a four-note theme, and each utilizes a particular aspect of marimba technique: the first movement explores wide leaps; the second, Arpeggios; the third, chordal combinations; the fourth is a study employing rapidly repeated notes. Canaries and March by Elliot carter are two of eight solo etudes for timpani. Metric modulations, a particular compositional technique of Elliot Carter, are employed in both works as well as are contrasting and shifting timbers. (See more in text
