A produção científica brasileira de teses e dissertações sobre health literacy

The paper aimed to analyze the Brazilian scientific production on health literacy, examining fifty-nine Brazilian theses and dissertations retrieved from libraries and open access digital catalogs. Bibliometrics and content analysis were applied in the collection and systematization of data that resulted in the following indicators: time series; geographic distribution; institutions and programs; areas; themes; authors' and supervisors´ gender. We highlight the recent nature of the studies and the predominance of applied studies that evaluate the levels of health literacy of individuals and groups, that analyze the health literacy impacts on health programs and policies or that validate measurement instruments adapted to the Brazilian context. More than half of the thesis and dissertations were defended in programs from Collective Health and Interdiscilinary areas. Brazilian southeast region concentrates most of the works. Indicators suggest the feminization of these field research, given the majority of female authors and supervisors.O trabalho teve o objetivo de mapear a produção científica brasileira sobre health literacy, analisando cinquenta e nove teses e dissertações recuperadas em bibliotecas e catálogos digitais de acesso aberto. A bibliometria e a análise de conteúdo foram aplicados na coleta e sistematização de dados que resultaram nos seguintes indicadores: série temporal; distribuição geográfica; instituições e programa de pós-graduação; áreas; temática; gênero dos autores e orientadores. Destaca-se o caráter recente dos trabalhos e a predominância de estudos aplicados que avaliam os níveis de health literacy de indivíduos e grupos, que analisam o impacto da health literacy sobre programas e políticas de saúde ou que validam instrumentos de mensuração adaptados ao contexto brasileiro. Mais da metade dos trabalhos foi defendida em programas das áreas de Saúde Coletiva e Interdisciplinar. Há concentração de trabalhos na região sudeste e indícios de feminilização do campo de pesquisa, dada a presença majoritária de autoras e orientadoras do sexo feminino
