Geometry out of sight: classifying quadrilaterals with visually impaired students

Esta investigación presenta los efectos que tiene, sobre las clasificaciones de cuadriláteros que realizan estudiantes con discapacidad visual, una serie de actividades acompañadas de un material manipulativo. Se trata de un estudio de corte cualitativo, mediante estudio de caso, con la participación de cuatro estudiantes con ceguera total de entre 10 y 12 años. En esta experiencia evidenciamos que los estudiantes ciegos desarrollan un proceso equivalente al proceso de visualización haciendo manipulaciones de representaciones 3D de cuadriláteros y, mediante procesos de abstracción, construyen definiciones al identificar las características de los objetos y realizan clasificaciones particionales.This research presents the effects that a series of activities accompanied by manipulative material have on the classifications of quadrilaterals carried out by students with visual disabilities. This is a qualitative study, by means of a case study, with the participation of four students with total blindness between 10 and 12 years. In this experience we show that blind students develop a process equivalent to the visualization process by manipulating 3D representations of quadrilaterals and, through processes of abstraction, construct definitions by identifying the characteristics of objects and perform partition classifications
