THE ANALYSIS OF YOUTUBE CHANNEL AS THE LEARNING SOURCES TO STUDY ENGLISH BY STUDENT OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE EDUCATION DEPARTMENT IN UNIVERSITY OF MUHAMMADIYAH MALANG

This study mainly aimed to find out the learners' experiences in using YouTube channels as a learning source to learn English and the YouTube Channels that students use as the source of learning English at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang. This present research applied a Mixed-Method Research as the research design. The subjects of this research were English Language Education Department students at University of Muhammadiyah Malang. The researcher chose the subjects by using Purposive Sampling Technique. There were two instruments used in collecting the data. They were questionnaires and interviews. The result of the research showed that the majority of learners had a positive experience in using YouTube as their learning source. For instance, a fascinating content, easy-to-understand explanation, rich material, repeatable video, broad access, and flexible usage. However, some of them found a challenge and disadvantage from using YouTube as the learning source. For instance, unclear pronunciation and accent, complex vocabulary, unfamiliar topics, unavailable subtitles, fatigue, less supportive environment, high usage of internet data, constant disruption, social engagement, and feedback loss. Furthermore, there were 3 (three) categories of YouTube channels mainly used by the students to learn English. Those were politics (6%), education (50%), and entertainment (44%). In addition, there were 4 (four) sources students utilized beside YouTube channels such website/blog (52,4%), book (66,7%), course (28,6%), and application (4,8%)
