Starting from the anthropological perspective presented by Hans Belting and related to the medium-image-body triad, this article offers a recontextualization of the current condition of images. According to Marie-José Mondza, this is a ‘radical’ issue which is particularly relevant to the context of political and mass media communication. The complexity of creating and enjoying images is due to the nature of ‘the visible’. Therefore, asking what images are is actually a multifaceted question concerning their meaning, their distribution, and their transformation. Thrown into a condition of technological reproducibility and subordinated to the interests of a ‘spectacle’ society, the images of the 21st century need to be constantly interpreted...
