The name of al-Fârâbî is often associated with his work Opinions of the People from the vertuous city, in which Greek thought -and chiefly that of Plato -has a deep influence. The outstanding element derived from the reading of these different treaties is the amount devoted to non-vertuous cities among which democracy yet has a place. This is of course Athenian democracy.
