Perception and understanding of the Etruscan gestures : A New Visual Approach in the Study of Ancient Dance The study of Etruscan dance based on iconographie sources presented in this article not only allows for the reexamination of the representation of gesture and movement, but also facilitates the identification of the limits imposed by the image’s visual dimension. Advances made in recent years have tended to promote the idea that the ancient image was not photographic in its reproduction of reality, but a « complex social product ».
