At the Intersection of Art, Science and Technology Art as object of study has received its title of nobility in France at the end of the nineteenth century, when the scientific and historical foundations were laid for a field of study that has become a discipline : Art History. This latter has gradually took place among the other scientific disciplines, but even before its institutionalization in the universities or museums, art had already established links with other sciences and knowledge, and has based its qualifications on mastering the work and the technique, as also it reinvents today itself through new technologies, biological and physical sciences. This issue of the journal Histoire de l’art explores the many aspects of the relationship between art, science and technology. There is no aim here to demonstrate the scientific nature of art but to think the work of art and architecture at the intersection of sciences - mathematics, natural history, biological, physical - and technologies which are defining today’s the environment of the contemporary society of the twenty-first century. An intersection, which shows sometimes the innovations placing the society within a high level of leadership and to its renewal, sometimes its paradoxes, thereby implying an ethical debate.L’art comme objet d’étude reçoit ses titres de noblesse en France à la fin du XIXe siècle, lorsque furent posés les fondements scientifiques et historiques d’un champ d’étude devenu désormais une discipline : l’histoire de l’art. Cette dernière s’est imposée progressivement parmi les autres disciplines scientifiques mais avant même son institutionnalisation dans des structures universitaires ou muséales, l’art avait déjà établi des liens avec d’autres savoirs et sciences et fondé ses qualités sur la maîtrise d’œuvre et la technique, tout comme d’ailleurs il se réinvente aujourd’hui à travers les nouvelles technologies et les sciences biologiques et physiques. Cette livraison de la revue Histoire de l’art propose d’explorer les multiples aspects du rapport entre Art, science et technologie. Il n’est nullement question ici de démontrer la scientificité de l’art mais de penser la production artistique et architecturale à l’intersection des sciences - mathématiques, naturelles, biologiques, physiques - et des technologies définissant aujourd’hui l’environnement de la société contemporaine du XXe siècle. Une intersection qui relève tantôt les innovations plaçant la société à l’intérieur d’un haut niveau d’avancement et conduisant ainsi à son renouvellement, tantôt ses apories, impliquant de ce fait un débat d’ordre éthique.Oulebsir Nabila.
