Lexicographic and paremiographic tradition has bequeathed to us some evidence concerning the existence of slave cities (δούλων πόλις) in the ancient world. This paper analyzes all the extant references to these particular cities, including the unique epigraphic testimony (second ca BC) preserved up to our times.
