Introdução: A Doença Renal Crônica (DRC) é reconhecida como um problema global de saúde pública. De acordo com o estadiamento da DRC é determinado o tipo de tratamento: conservador ou terapia renal substitutiva. Vários estudos na literatura sugerem que pacientes com DRC apresentam alteração de paladar para um ou mais dos cinco sabores básicos (doce, salgado, amargo, azedo e umami) quando comparados com indivíduos saudáveis. Assim, esclarecer a percepção do paladar e sua relação com o estado nutricional na doença renal crônica pode possibilitar novas estratégias de intervenção nutricional, visando a recuperação do estado nutricional neste grupo.
