Pepelnicu (Erysiphe necator) ubrajamo među najvažnije gljivične bolesti vinove loze. Promjenom klime početkom novog milenija štete od pepelnice povećavaju se pa su pojedinih sezona u kontinentalnim regijama veće od šteta uzrokovanih prosječno dominantnom plamenjačom (Plasmopara viticola) (Šubić, 2009; Dubuis i sur., 2011). Za razliku od mogućnosti predviđanja prve pojave plamenjače i sive plijesni temeljem količine oborina i duljine zadržavanja vlage na osjetljivim zelenim organima pepelnica se ne može tako predvidjeti.
