Navigation devices for the blind: needs identification and experimental prototyping

Neredzīgu cilvēku skaits palielinās proporcionāli cilvēku skaitam, līdz ar to, palielinās arī cilvēku skaits, kuriem ikdienas gaitās nepieciešama vai nu asistenta palīdzība vai palīglīdzekļi. Šajā darbā apzinātas, pētītas un analizētas neredzīgu cilvēku vajadzības saistībā ar navigācijas palīglīdzekļiem, to esamību, pieejamību un neredzīgu cilvēku prasības no jauniem palīglīdzekļiem, lai tos reāli lietotu. Darbā eksperimentēts ar divu veidu sensoriem, kas spēj noteikt attālumu līdz objektiem – ultraskaņas sensoru un infrasarkano sensoru. Eksperimenta mērķis – pārbaudīt abu sensoru darbspēju un trūkumus, salīdzināt to darbību trīs dažādās vidēs un pret trīs dažādiem šķēršļiem. Eksperimentējot tika secināts, ka abi sensori labi papildina viens otra trūkumus, piemēram, ultraskaņas sensoram traucē apkārtējo trokšņi, toties tas atšķirībā no infrasarkanā sensora precīzi mēra attālumus līdz jebkādas krāsas objektiem.The number of blind people is increasing in proportion to the number of people, and consequently, the number of people who need either the help of an assistant or aids in their daily work is also increasing. This work identifies and analyzes the needs of blind people in relation to navigation aids, their availability, accessibility and the needs of blind people from new aids to actually use them. The work experimented with two types of sensors that are able to determine the distance to objects - ultrasonic sensor and infrared sensor. The aim of the experiment is to check the performance and shortcomings of both sensors, to compare their performance in different environments and against different obstacles. The experiment concluded that the two sensors complement each other's shortcomings, for example, the ultrasonic sensor is disturbed by ambient noise, but unlike the infrared sensor, it accurately measures distances to objects of any color
