Automated pressure-sensitive labeling machine

The researchers aim to design and construct an automated pressure-sensitive labeling machine which will be able to attach adhesive labels to a moving line of bottles. The study will prove to be significant if it has addressed two criteria: efficiency and productivity and cost. The design of the labeling machine will be based on the research the group has conducted. Concepts in labeling operations, powered belt conveyor, sensors, AC and DC motors and control systems will be used. The researchers themselves designed and fabricated the entire labeling machine. The machine has two major components: the labeling mechanism and the conveyor system. Two motors are used in the design: an AC motor for driving the conveyor system and a DC motor for driving the rewind roll of the labeling mechanism. A Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) is used to control the entire operation. A microswitch is employed to detect the presence of bottle, thus, activating the DC motor. A photoelectric sensor is used to detect the presence of labeled bottles and, thus, deactivating the DC motor. Through experimentation, the researchers were able to determine the best results to meet their objectives. In the discussion and analysis of results, the researchers found the possible hindrances to the labeling machine developed. The researchers were able to address the general and specific objectives in the accomplishment of the fabrication and assembly of a conveyor system, a labeling mechanism and the necessary electronic circuit. The study was also proved to be significant in that the total cost incurred in the manufacturing of the labeling machine is considerably lower than the cost of existing labeling machines available in the market. As for the efficiency and productivity, the study was significant enough as to give an output of an average of 20 bottles per minute. Recommendations from members of the faculty were gathered for possible future improvement of the machine. Suggestions from the researchers themselves were also included to further emend the labeling operation
