Insecticide bottle filling and capping machine

Mapecon Philippines, Inc. is a manufacturer of pest control products. To compete with the competition, they introduced a product known as the Big R. The manual production processes, namely filling and capping, pose a lot of issues. During production, bubbles are produced when filling and added effort is required when capping. This study focuses on how to design and fabricate an Insecticide Bottle Filling and Capping Machine, which can automatically fill and cap bottles. The machine has three major components. First, the mechanical component that includes the conveyor, filling and capping system. Second, the electrical component that comprises of control system, sensors, solenoid valve and relay switch. Lastly, the software component that is composed of the programming language and PIC programmer used as well as pin assignments. Experiments were conducted to finalize the design of the machine and to confirm if it has met its objectives and scope. Results showed that machine is performing well. The target production rate of 6 bottles per minute was reached. In effect, it can fill and cap more than 2,880 bottles per day, thereby increasing their production rate by over 400%. The machine also dispenses the correct amount of solution of 100% of the time. In addition, the machine was able to minimize wastes from drips and overflow. Finally, the machine reduced manpower requirement from 3 to 2 persons, thus decreasing labor cost by 33%. It can be concluded from this study that the automation of the filling and capping processes will aid the company in their plan to expand in product distribution business. It will make their process more cost effective and efficient, consequently increasing their profit
