There are over 170 dog breeds recognized by the American Kennel Club but most have never gone through a popularity boom. Nine breeds have experienced a popularity boom/bust cycle lasting around 27 years in total. In a few cases, these popularity boosts have been caused by a movie (e.g. Disney\u27s Big Red caused the Irish Setter fad) but in most cases the fad was sparked by people following a new trend (also seen with baby names, music and even Neolithic pottery styles)
