The multimedia content traffic over the Internet is increasingly being represented by battery-powered devices, such as smartphones, tablets, etc. On the other hand, the increase in the density of components in a chip and, consequently, in the power dissipation, poses a problem for such devices. Despite the considerable increase in computational capacity in the last decades, the same growth has not been observed in battery life for such systems. Due to the fact that the multimedia content represents the most part of the Internet traffic, there is a need for optimizing these kind of applications, in order to compensate for the short battery life.
