Small modular reactors (SMRs) present a unique opportunity to cost effectively cut down carbon emissions across different industrial sectors, including district heat (DH) production. If SMRs are to contribute in limiting the carbon footprint of Finnish DH production, a site that is both suitable and which does not lead to significant additional costs must be found. This thesis aims to provide an overview into how different technical, legislative, and qualitative factors effect the site selection for an SMR.
