ANALISIS FRAMING PEMBERITAAN PROTES UMAT MUSLIM PADA PRESIDEN PRANCIS TENTANG KARTUN NABI MUHAMMAD (STUDI PADA TEMPO.CO DAN REPUBLIKA.CO.ID PERIODE OKTOBER – NOVEMBER 2020)

The development of mass media is pretty much influenced by technology development itself. Online mass media is one of the media which develop and has different characteristic than the old mass media. Even as the agent or an informant for the society, media has its interest as a company that gains profit from the click or reader on their site/news. Religious issue is one of the biggest issues for Indonesian society which can attract much attention from the public. The terrorism case occurred in France and the public assertion stated by France president, Emmanuel Macron gained various responses from the public around the world. Especially with Macron's statement which is considered harassment to Islam religion because of his support on publication of The Prophet Muhammad’s cartoon by Charlie Hebdo Magazine in France. Through this study, the researcher wants to study how Republika.co.id and Tempo.co framed the news about Moslem’s protest against President Macron’s remarks. By using a descriptive-qualitative approach, this study wants to observe the phenomenon of the portrayal of the two media in preaching religious issues. Data analysis used in this study is framing with Robert N. Entman model. The subject of this study is online media website, Republika.co.id and Tempo.co while the object of this study is the news about muslim protests against President Macron's statement regarding caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad at Charlie Hebdo Magazine. The data collection techniques in this study used news text documentation techniques from Republika.co.id and Tempo.co. The results of this study show that there is a difference between Republika.co.id and Tempo.co in preaching the event. Republika.co.id consistently viewed the event from an Islamic point of view and positioned Muslims as victims affected and exploited in terrorism cases in France to President Macron's statement. Meanwhile, Tempo.co is more critical about the problem of radicalism as the trigger and source of the problem of this event. However, there are similarities between Republika.co.id and Tempo.co where both recommend publishing the universal values of freedom of expression which agreed universally by the world nations, so the similiar event never occurs again
