Federal law strongly encourages participation of parents of children with special needs in the development of their child\u27s special education Individualized Educational Program. However, parents are not always involved and knowledgeable about the IEP. Twenty-seven parents of students with disabilities in a rural county high school were surveyed with a twenty-one item phone interview to assess their level of satisfaction with and understanding of the IEP process. Parents\u27 level of satisfaction and understanding was relatively high, contrary to trends reported in the literature
