Context: EAFD (Electric Arc Furnace Dust) is a material with high metallic content that is not utilized properly because their composition and the technical approach to treat or recycle them safely are unknown. Although it is a co-product rich in zinc, often the recovery of this metal is a challenging task. Objective: To propose a method to treat the EAFD through the selective extraction of zinc by hydrometallurgical route, obtaining a liquor rich in zinc for its subsequent recovery and future application and a solid rich in iron for its recirculation in iron and steel processes.
