Senecio irgangii Matzenbacher & Mondin (Asteraceae-Senecioneae), a new species collected only at the Pró-Mata Center for Nature Research and Conservation, located at São Francisco de Paula municipality, Rio Grande do Sul state, Brazil, is described and illustrated. This species is characterized by ascending habit, with adventitious roots at the base of the stem; narrowly oblong-elliptic, irregularly pinnatifid leaves; dentate leaf margins; and capitula arranged in lax corymbs.
