January 31, 1912[letterhead]Near Mozambique & Madagascar where Wanda was supposed to go mountaineering if you\u27d only ask her.Darling Helen,I hope you are all well. I\u27ve had the grandest time imaginable. Kings may be blest but I\u27m glorious etc. Left Capetown, Jan 16th arrived Victoria Falls on the 20th wandered about in the woods that fringe them dripping with spray & through the Baobab woods. Thence to Beira on the east coast 150 miles or so from the mouth of the Zambesi, glorious glacial sculptured mountains hundreds of miles of granite domes, ridges, peaks like those about Yosemite & Tuolumne. A vast unletterable lot of them.At Beira caught the good Windhuk that I left at Capetown & am now on my way to Mombasa where I\u27ll again leave her for a three weeks trip to Lake Nyanza, returning in time to catch the steamer General of the same line, due at Mombasa on the 27th of Feb. Then home I go via Suez, Naples & New York arriving California about April or May. You see then Darling that after a look at the lake region all the rest of the trip will be only easy homegoing hoping all the way to find you well.
