La Unión Liberal en el sistema político isabelino. Concepciones, alcances y limitaciones (1858-1863)

AbstractThis article reviews the current state of knowledge about a political party, the Liberal Union, who presided over the longest and most stable government of the Elizabethan era. Unionism is a political project that has traditionally suffered neglect of historiography by then or be considered strategic solution for the classic conservatism is perpetuated in power. My research question is this line of interpretation and emphasize that unionism can crack more so the theory of weak Spanish liberalism. The Liberal Union was a political, original and innovative experiment, which already covered under premises liberal culture, reinterprets and accommodates the key ideas of freedom-order-transaction reconciliation to devise a new way of doing politics and definitely «modern» to be projected into the future.Este artículo pretende revisar el estado actual de conocimientos sobre una formación política, la Unión Liberal, que presidió el Gobierno más largo y estable de la era isabelina. El unionismo es un proyecto político que tradicionalmente ha sufrido la desatención de la historiografía por ser considerado continuación o solución estratégica para que el moderantismo clásico se perpetuase en el poder. Mi investigación trata de cuestionar esta línea interpretativa y enfatizar que el unionismo puede agrietar más si cabe la tesis de la debilidad del liberalismo español.La Unión Liberal fue un experimento político, original e innovador, que bajo premisas ya contempladas en la cultura liberal, reinterpreta y acomoda las ideas-fuerza de libertad-orden, conciliación-transacción para concebir una forma de hacer política nueva y definitivamente «moderna» que se proyectará hacia el futuro.
