Évolution géodynamique de la province côtière sud-équatorienne au Crétacé supérieur-Tertiaire

Stratigraphic, sedimentologic and structural observations in the field as well as seismic and well data are used to model the precise geodynamic evolution of the coastal Ecuatorian province, one of the oldest oil field in the world. During the first stage (Late Aptian to late Paleocene 108-53 MY) the ecuatorian coastal province experienced an oceanic evolution.After emplacement of the oceanic crust (Pinôn Fm), a locally emergent island arc developed that was subaerially eroded depositing greywacke sédiments on the oceanic crust. The second stage is characterised by the collision of coastal Ecuador with the South America plate at the end of Paleocene. This results in déformations (folds and faults) and its fragmentation in small blocks which experienced rotations. At the end of Oligocène, shortening and thickening resulted in general subaerial exposure. During the third evolutionary stage from early Miocene to Present (24 to 0 MY) the Ecuatorian coastal Province represent the fore arc of the South American Pacific margin. As the subduction of Nazca lithosphère below South America is highly oblique, the fore arc area is broken by transcurrent fault Systems (Guayaquil, Carrizal, La Cruz, Jipijapa) ; transtensional pull apart basins develop characterised by a strong neogene subsidence. The occurrence of a seismic ridge on the subducting lithosphère, which sweep along the margin, results in important vertical variations.L'analyse des séries de la péninsule équatorienne fondée sur les observations stratigraphiques, sédimentologiques et tectoniques ainsi que des données industrielles (profils sismiques, forages) permet de préciser révolution géodynamique de cette région, l'un des plus anciens champ pétrolier du monde. Trois grandes étapes sont distinguées, avant pendant et après la collision de ce terrain océanique avec l'Amérique du Sud. Durant l'étape pré-collisionnelle (Aptien supérieur - Paléocène supérieur 108-Ma) la région est un domaine océanique ; après mise en place d'une croûte océanique (Pinôn) s'installe un système d'arc insulaire intraocéanique qui tend à émerger et dont les produits alimentent la sédimentation. Ce système entre en collision avec l'Amérique du Sud vers la limite Paléocène-Eocène et subit des déformations et des rotations de blocs qui aboutiront à une émersion généralisée à la fin de l'Oligocène. A partir du Miocène inférieur et jusqu'à nos jours (24-0 Ma) la province côtière équatorienne constitue le système d'avant-arc associé à la subduction de la lithosphère océanique de Nazca sous la plaque américaine. Cette subduction oblique est la cause d'une déformation non homogène. Le domaine côtier est tronçonné par des failles majeures jouant en décrochement (système Guayaquil, Carrizal, La Cruz, Jipijapa) déterminant l'apparition de bassins en transtension caractérisés par une subsidence importante durant le Néogène. La lithosphère qui entre en subduction comporte des dorsales asismiques qui du fait de l'obliquité balayent la marge américaine entraînant d'importants mouvements verticaux
