After about ten years of research, Self-cleaning glasses have been commercialized in 2001. The principle is based on the photocatalytic properties of a submicronic layer of TiO2 deposited on their surface. Under UV solar irradiation and in presence of oxygen, they are able to degrade organic stains adsorbed at the surface. The present work aims to provide a better understanding of the interactions between TiO2 layer and real stains, as well as to evaluate the photocatalytic degradation kinetics of model pollutants by the glasses. The influence of different parameters such as the temperature, the characteristics of the irradiation, the nature of the different pollutant families has been studied and correlated to the performances of the glass...
