In France, in 2005, the poverty rate rose at 9.6% of the active population according to the Insee's definition of the relative poverty, i.e. 2.6 millions of poor active persons. The poverty rate informs rightly the proportion of poor active persons at a given date, but doesn't inform about the active population inflows into the poverty and outflows outside the poverty. Demographic analysis tools allow bringing a longitudinal analysis of these phenomena.
