Two approaches to characterize porous media in terms of pore size distribution (PSD) are developed within our ECPS team. The aim of this study is to experimentally confirm their validity. Like the other methods using mercury intrusion, adsorption isotherm or thermoporometry, the first method consists in the use of a fluid flow threshold. Indeed, the use of flow of a yield-stress fluid like those of Herschel-Bulkley's, through a porous media, versus the pressure gradient, permits (using the analytical and numerical solutions of the inverse problem) to determine the distribution function of its PSD.
