My PhD thesis goal was to investigate on the catalytic properties of first row transition metal complexes for the hydrogen evolving reaction (HER). The underlying question in the field concerning the catalytic species of metal complexes for the HER was then, whether it is homogeneous or heterogeneous catalysis. My work concerns the synthesis and characterization of oximato based cobalt and nickel complexes and their electrochemical behavior in presence of acids. In the first chapter, I give a general introduction on the search for catalytic molecular systems for the production of hydrogen. I also give an overview of my approach tackling the problem of homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysis. In the second chapter I discuss on the electrochem...
