Der Baustoff Glas gehört zu den ältesten Baustoffen der Welt und wird seit Jahrhunderten im Bauwesen eingesetzt. Die Anwendung erfolgt zumeist aufgrund der Transparenz im Bereich der Fassade. Das Glas bildet hier die Gebäudehülle und erfährt eine Biegebeanspruchung, was an sich nicht der optimalen Nutzung des Materials entspricht. Die wahre Stärke des Werkstoffes Glas ist nämlich seine hohe Druckfestigkeit. Ziel der vorliegenden Arbeit ist es, zuerst die Möglichkeiten aufzuzeigen, wie Glas entsprechend seiner mechanischen Eigenschaften sinnvoll als Teil der primären Tragstruktur von Bauwerken eingesetzt werden kann. Dazu werden mehrere Projekte, sowie Forschungsarbeiten vorgestellt, wo dies bereits zufriedenstellend aufgezeigt werden konnte...
