O câncer de cabeça e pescoço ocorre nas regiões da cavidade oral, da faringe (orofaringe, nasofaringe e hipofaringe) e da laringe. Aspectos epidemiológicos evidenciam a etiologia multifatorial das neoplasias de cabeça e pescoço, destacando, o tabagismo e o etilismo crônicos como principais fatores de risco, seguidos dos aspectos nutricionais, infecções pelo HPV e polimorfismos genéticos. No contexto dos polimorfismos genéticos tem-se o gene p5372(RP).
