The ATLAS detector will feature an electromagnetic calorimeter with the superb resolution at high energies necessary for the discovery of an hypothetical Higgs boson in the LHC, particularly at low masses. This talk concentrates on the end-caps of this calorimeter. We describe some aspects of their construction process with particular emphasis on the stringent mechanical tolerances imposed by the target energy resolution. We discuss the quality control procedures involved in the construction and commissioning processes. Results are presented on the response to electron beams of the fraction of produced calorimeter modules which have been beam tested
