KOMIK PEMBELAJARAN: SEBUAH MEDIA UNTUK MEMBANGUN LITERASI SISWA SEKOLAH DASAR

The article discusses how comics are used to build primary school students’ literacy. Literacy is essential for primary school students because with high literacy, students can be more competent, independent, and easy to follow the technological development. However, to an international survey institution, PISA, it shows Indonesian students’ literacy is still very low. Based on these problems, teachers need to develop a means to attract primary students to love reading. One of media that can be used is comics. Comics consist of pictures with certain entertaining stories and character sequence. In learning process, comics serve as a tool for building primary school students’ literacy. Pictures in comics become the main attraction for primary school students. They are also very interesting because they consist of students’ usually idolized characters. In addition, the plots in comics can also develop students’ imagination and critical thinking. Therefore, using comics as a learning medium to improve the students’ literacy needs to be taken into consideration. Keywords: comics, literacy, primary school student
