International audienceFrom the 17th century, the coast of Guyana and especially the Cayenne harbour are frequented by sailors and adventurers of the seas, even before the long-lasting colonization of the region. Coastal regions deserted by the Spanish and Portuguese naval powers, other European powers will exploit the Wild Coast. At the establishment of the colony, the various administrators and governors will promote the shelter and supply of buccaneers and pirates progressing forward in the colony. The colony will become a stopover during the return of crews cruising in the South Seas and many buccaneers will take steps in the second half of the seventeenth century and the first half of the eighteenth century.
