The premix burner is the most successful concept so far for low-pollution combustion of natural gas, heating oil and other fuels in gas turbine systems. Gas burners are used with good results at Siemens KWU, and the use of oil premix burners was investigatd. Both burners must be optimized for small systems up to 10 MW as both the mechanisms of pollutant formation and the starting characteristics are influenced by the pressure conditions. In order to achieve this goal, a Nuovo Pignone PGT10 gas turbine will be equipped with a combustion chamber specially developed for the Siemens hybrid burneres and will be used as a high-pressure test stand with appropriate instrumentation.
