Borehole seismic experiments in the form of vertical-seismic-profil (VSP) and moving-source-profil (VSP) experiments have been subjected to a theoretical analysis. Based on the solution of acoustic wave equation by approximative inversion of a generalized radon transformation, algorithms for VSP and MSP experiments were derived enabling a quantitative and qualitative analysis of different array geometries. It is demonstrated that subsurface resolution is improved by a controlled migration. Application of VSP/MSP-CDP-transformation enables image reconstruction of reflecting subsurface structures even in the case of declined structures. The appendix of this report presents the results of preliminary investigations on the utilization of drill-...
