The objective of the research project was to develop a pH-redoxactive decontamination method for in-situ treatment of bodies of groundwater polluted with uranium and arsenic. The contamination of groundwater with uranium and arsenic is a serious environmental concern in areas of the Lands of Saxonia and Thuringia where uranium mining has been an important economic activity in the past. The rehabilitation of such bodies of water requires substantial investment and research efforts, and the objective is to establish an efficient in-situ treatment method enabling concurrent immobilisation of the uranium and arsenic contamination in a single process step.
