Two aspects of refractive laser surgery were investigated. The influence of secondary radiation on intraocular structures was assessed using markers for oxygen radicals. An increase in these markers was already detected when cutting the tissue with a microkeratome. A new method for measuring corneal topometry was also tested. This method will allow for an online monitoring of refractive laser procedures for the first time. This will improve the outcome of these procedures. A patent was filed and a company was founded to turn the method into a product.
