Josep Pla, between Literature and Politics at the End of Francoism

Amb la creació del Premi d’Honor de les Lletres Catalanes, el món literari i cultural català va viure de forma recurrent una polèmica sobre si l’escriptor Josep Pla era mereixedor d’aquest guardó. Les diferents opinions no valoraven els mèrits literaris de Pla, sinó consideracions sobre l’ús de la llengua catalana per part dels escriptors i les seves implicacions en la supervivència de la cultura pròpia. L’article ressegueix aquesta qüestió i aborda també el paper essencial de la revista Destino en aquests fets.With the creation of the Award of Honour of Catalan Literature, theCatalan cultural and literary world experienced a recurring controversy about whether the writer Josep Pla was deserving of the award or not. Different opinions evaluated not the literary merits of the Pla, but considerations about the use of the Catalan language by writers and the implications of these for the survival of Catalan culture itself. This article examines this issue and also addresses the important role of the magazine Destino in these events
