National Research Council (NRC), in collaboration with National Defence Canada (DND), has initiated a project to investigate the feasibility of using a newly-developed compressed-air-foam (CAF) fire suppression system to provide fire safety protection to aircrafts and hangar structures. Previous research has indicated that such an objective can be met if the fire suppression system achieves 90% control of the fire in 30 s and extinguishment in 60 s. As a part of this project, a prototype CAF protection system was developed and evaluated to determine whether it meets the project objective.
