This paper describes the test facility and results for a fixed-pipe compressed-air-foam (CAF) system featuring an innovative air injection method and foam distribution nozzles. A prototype system was used to access whether a CAF system could meet fire safety requirements and compared its performance to that of a foam-water sprinkler system typically used in hangars. The experimental procedure used was similar to the test requirement listed in the UL162 standard.
