Existing test methods of sealants foretell little about the performances of sealants in actual practice. A new approach to testing is proposed illustrated by the example of silicone sealants. It consists of applying basic information to model specimens and covering the full range of rate of deformation from rates occuring in practice to usual laboratory testing rates.Les m\ue9thodes d'essais existantes des produits d'\ue9tanchement fournissent peu de renseignements sur le rendement des produits d'\ue9tanchement dans la pratique.
