Manufacturing and commercialisation of iron in Gallic and Roman Aquitaine : studies of production wastes

Depuis les années 2000, les problématiques archéologiques sur la métallurgie du fer se sont multipliées, plus particulièrement autour des questions de provenance. Dans la continuité de ces recherches, les travaux doctoraux, débutés en octobre 2013, visent à compléter nos connaissances sur l'artisanat du fer et son impact économique dans un secteur géographique encore peu étudié, l'Aquitaine gauloise et romaine. L'objectif de cette étude est de cerner le développement économique de cet artisanat au sein d'un corpus de dix-sept ateliers métallurgiques, datés du second âge du Fer à l'antiquité tardive. Les déchets de production seront étudiés à l'aide de méthodes physico-chimiques, afin d'identifier les processus de fabrication et de répondre aux problématiques économiques.Since the 2000s, the archaeological problems of iron metallurgy multiplied, particularly around the questions of "origin". In the continuity, the research based on doctoral works, which begun in October 2013, aims to complete our knowledge of the iron craft and its economic impact in the form of a little study on the geographical area of Gallic and Roman Aquitaine. The objective of this study is to understand economic development of this craft within a corpus of seventeen metallurgical sites, dating from the Second Iron Age to the Late Antiquity. The waste from production will be studied by physicochemical methods, to identify the manufacturing process and answer to economic problems
