-10- Mr. Bacon complimented the administration on behalf of the Committee for the intelligent use of limited space on the campus. He noted that much classroom renovation is needed and it is expected that this could cost as much as LE 750,000. Hill House, the site of the present library, might make an ideal location for the computer center once the new library is opened. It is possible that a warehouse belonging to Mobil-Egypt might be available for use by DPS for more vocational programs. The question of moving the campus to some outlying area was considered once again. It was estimated that the cost of such a move would be LE 100,000,000. The Committee backed away from the idea and instead favors the creation of innovative space at the present location. j. Alumni Affairs Committee - Mr. Thorne congratulated those invol­. ved in the Alumni Dinner held the previous evening. It is the sense of the Board that such events are useful and should be repeated in the future. The Chairman of the Committee, Mr. Aldrich, noted that there are approximately 5,000 alumni who are widely scattered and many have yet to be located. He noted that this will be a difficult process because of the dis­tance between AUC and the U.S., and because of the absence of a tradition of Alumni giving. Miss Mary Iskander, Director of Alumni Affairs, is preparing an Alumni Directory and wants to start a job placement service, it was noted. Mr. Aldrich said that there should be space on campus for Alumni Affairs and for returning visitors. 4.
